What you'll learn:
Have you said ‘yes’ to something recently, only to regret it? In this mini-masterclass, we explore the challenges women face in juggling the demands of work and life, often feeling pressured to take on the burden of non-promotable tasks. We dive into how saying no can help protect our time and energy and share practical tips for doing it effectively (and politely).
💡 The superwoman effect: Women are often expected to juggle full-time work, office ‘housework’, and far too many household responsibilities, leading to burnout. These expectations are holding us back from higher-value opportunities!
💡 Invisible labour and non-promotable tasks: Women spend 44% more time on tasks that don’t lead to promotions, like taking notes or organising meetings. These add up and are seriously limiting our career progression.
💡 How to say no: We share three ways to say no professionally – starting with being honest and clear. Consider offering alternatives or sharing your current priorities to show you’re still a team player without taking on more than you can handle. Finally, share your priorities and any tradeoffs.
💡 The preemptive no: The best no is a proactive one, said out loud! Set expectations early, block time in your calendar for last-minute requests, and communicate with key people about your capacity, priorities and when you can be reached.

"Loved this one. I had an hour-long conversation with my husband that evening about the way women get trapped into doing non-promotable tasks and the ways in which we can say no without hurting our chances at promotion."
