Vanessa Sorenson grew up in a caravan park as a self-described ‘poor kid from the wrong side of town’. She left school at 16 and transformed into an influential leader through sheer determination, visualisation, and surrounding herself with the right people:
💡 Visualisation works when you commit to it – Vanessa visualised a better life at age 11. Her practical approach includes writing down three goals, creating vision boards, and telling someone who’ll hold you accountable.
💡 People matter more than plans – From the teacher who said, ‘I think there’s more in you than that’ to the life partner who became her biggest cheerleader, Vanessa’s journey was supercharged by key relationships. It’s hugely important to nurture these connections before you need them.
💡 True leadership means letting go – The hardest transition for Vanessa was moving from being the person who ‘knows it all’ to the ‘learn it all’ leader who creates space for others to grow. Recognise that things really do go on without you. And yes, sometimes things break, but ‘When you can feel the freedom and confidence in your people, that’s when you are truly leading.’
