What you'll learn:
When life gives you lemonsβ¦
Danielle Brown has an extraordinary story. From a teenage disability diagnosis to Paralympic champion – then a major career pivot when rule changes ended her athletic career.
She shares her practical, no-nonsense approach to resilience and reinvention:
π
You choose to ‘get up or give up’ – Diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome as a teenager, Danielle realised she couldn’t control her circumstances, but she could control her response: ‘You’ve got the choice to either get up or give up.’ By simplifying the challenge, she took control when everything felt overwhelming.
π
Focus on identity goals, not just outcome goals – Rather than just chasing what we want to achieve (those shiny medals!), focus on who you want to become. Thinking about who we want to be drives deeper change because we’re more motivated when committing to a vision of our future selves.
π
Treat lack of confidence as a risk to manage – After nearly talking herself out of winning at her first Paralympics with those spiralling ‘what ifs’, Danielle realised the importance of investing in her confidence. Think about wobbly confidence as a risk factor that can be managed.
π
Redefine success through tiny wins – Athletes fail far more than they ever succeed, so get really good at focusing on small wins. By celebrating tiny improvements, all of a sudden, they add up into huge achievements over time.
