What you'll learn:

Like the Bermuda triangle, the drama triangle draws us in.It’s perfectly natural to react unhelpfully when times get tough. A small misunderstanding meets a big overreaction; blame gets thrown around, someone swoops in to fix everything – and suddenly it becomes a Big Deal.

As our favourite reality TV shows have taught us, conflict can’t exist in isolation. It’s the relationships and interactions between people that cause tensions to rise. From feedback and disagreements to restructures and resentments, the drama triangle plays out in workplaces (and lives) every single day. So, in this session, we cover:

⭐️ Why awareness is important: In the moment, we often don’t realise were contributing to the drama. If we don’t learn ways to identify our own unhelpful reactions, we can accidentally make tough situations worse or get stuck in inaction – tricking ourselves into believing that we have less control than we do. This can negatively impact our personal brands, relationships and the situation as a whole.

⭐️ Three unhelpful roles we can all adopt: The drama dial turns up when we feel threatened, misunderstood, tired and uncertain. So, we unconsciously adopt a role: The Victim, Villain, or Hero. The sneaky thing about these roles? They feel completely justified in the moment – even when we’re adding to the chaos.

⭐️ How to escape the triangle: By breaking big, scary situations into small, achievable steps, we can bypass our brain’s threat response. So we identify a Minimum Viable Action (MVA) – a small action to take next time we feel tensions rising.

quotes

"I often find myself getting drawn into others dramas at work. Recently I’ve moved from Hero - Villain - Victim all in one ‘dramatic situation” and it’s not felt good at all. I’m definitely going to try some of the actions!"
